Eczema and contact dermatitis account for 84-90% of occupational skin disease, and affects up to one in five children. It usually appears for the first time before your child is two years old, and more than half of children will be over it by the time they're teenagers, but it can also continue into adulthood.
Eczema is a form of dermatitis, which is an acute or chronic inflammation of the skin.
Having eczema means that the skin's barrier doesn't work as well as it should, which makes it drier. Skin will be more prone to infections and allergens can enter the skin more easily, which can make the condition worse.
In mild cases of eczema, the skin is dry, scaly, red and itchy. In more severe cases there may be weeping, crusting and bleeding. Constant scratching causes the skin to split and bleed and also leaves it open to infection.
Atopic eczema is a genetic condition based on the interaction between a number of genes and environmental factors. In most cases there will be a family history of either eczema or one of the other ‘atopic’ conditions i.e asthma or hay fever.
Eczema can be controlled with the right treatments.
If your child is suffering from eczema life can become very difficult. You have to be really careful because children often try to relieve the itching by rubbing the affected areas with a hand or anything within reach. Unfortunately scratching can make the rash worse. The skin is a mirror to the internal body and in particular, intestines. Skin irritations and eczema which appear around the neckline, on the face, especially around the mouth area, usually indicate disrupted intestinal flora. The body cannot eliminate toxins and excretes them through the skin.
Salt Therapy is a clinically proven natural, safe and beneficial method of treatment for every age group. It:
Internally, Salt Therapy helps to lower the IgE level, a measure of antibodies which is often high in people with allergies. Salt Therapy helps to lower this level, meaning the immune system does not over-react to try to deal with the problem.
On the outside of the body, it reduces inflammation on the skin and improves circulation on the skin surface. Particles of the dry salt aerosol kill bacteria and fungi and cleanse your skin and respiratory tract of allergens like pollen, dust or smoke which trigger the disease. After a few sessions, the itching sensation on your little one's skin decreases, cracks heal and rashes disappear.

“Kiaan has suffered with eczema since he was a baby, it gets particularly bad when we go away on holiday and he spends long periods of time in the pool. This year his eczema was particularly unbearable and the medication prescribed by out GP just didn’t seem to work. It was very painful for Kiaan, at nights he would scratch it in his sleep until it bled. We were introduced to The Salt Cave by the headmistress o
and took advantage of an offer to the school for a free session at the cave of Kiaan’s school. After just 3 sessions we noticed the difference in Kiaan’s eczema and after just 7 sessions the condition had completely cleared up.
Both Kiaan and myself are extremely grateful to the staff at The Salt Cave and would highly recommend this as an alternative treatment for anyone with eczema conditions!”

“Dexter had glue ear and constantly had ear and chest infections. Treatment sought to alleviate symptoms and prevent re occurrence. Both boys suffer eczema so we keep that at bay too. We have been coming recently on a daily basis as both boys have suffered a serious bout of impetigo and we believe it would help heal the sores.
They enjoy being in The Salt Cave so being here keeps them entertained for an hour. I believe it has helped keep their eczema outbursts to a minimum. As soon as they show signs of being under the weather we bring them and since we started coming full blown infections and viruses have been notably reduced.
Both boys suffered impetigo for 7 days and although there was a positive response to prescribed medication it was slow and the sores were still open and growing (albeit at a slower pace) After 5 consecutive daily sessions the sores have closed over and are healing well. I wholeheartedly recommend The Salt Cave both for illness prevention and symptom treatment.”
